This recipe makes a slightly more complicated tincture, that enhances the properties of damiana (and makes it quite delicious).
- 1 quart jar
- approx 3 cups of vodka (cheap vodka works)
- approx 1 cup of honey (runny honey is better for this, but you can use any honey)
- 1 cup of dried damiana
- peel of 1/2 orange or 1 tangerine
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract or 1/2 a vanilla bean
Place the damiana, orange peel and vanilla into the jar. Fill the jar 3/4 of the way with vodka, then top up the rest with honey. Cover, and shake it well until the honey has blended. Label it (date, ingredients, title) then leave it somewhere cool and dark for 4-6 weeks.
In 4-6 weeks, place a strainer over a big bowl, and pour out the elixir. Leave to strain for 2-3 hours, then discard the plant matter, and save the elixir in a pretty bottle. You can drink this by the teaspoon, or place in a dropper bottle and take by the dropper.
