This recipe makes a simple tincture of damiana using the folk method.
- 1 quart jar
- Approx 1 quart of a medium percentage alcohol, like vodka or brandy (or try one of each to see which you prefer). It can be a really cheap brand, because the herbs will flavour the alcohol a lot.
- 1 cup of dried damiana
Place the dried herbs into the jar, then fill the jar with whichever alcohol you choose. Put the lid on and shake well.
Label it with the herb name (damiana), the date, and what alcohol you used. Then leave it somewhere cool and dark for 4-6 weeks.
In 4-6 weeks, place a strainer over a bowl, and pour out the tincture. Let it drain for a few hours, then discard the plant matter, and store the tincture in a big bottle. You can decant it into smaller bottles if you're planning to use it daily, or give it to people.
