1 cup dried damiana
2.5 cups vodka (any vodka will do-- I usually use Smirnoff or Sky for projects that I'm going to be adding sweetener to)
1.5 cup honey
1 vanilla bean
Put the damiana and vanilla bean (cut the vanilla bean into a few pieces) into a clean jar (with plenty of room). Add the vodka, and then the honey. Cover tightly and shake the whole thing well, until the honey and booze have mixed (you might need to shake it over the course of a few days to get the honey to mix with the booze, depending on the type of honey you're using). Now, put a label on the jar that says 'damiana liqueur 2018' and put it in a cool, dark place for 4-6 weeks.
In 4-6 weeks, give it another good shake, and then pour the whole thing through a strainer, into a big bowl or container. Squeeze out as much of the liquid as you can, saving the leftover plant matter.
Pour the liquid back into the jar (rinse out the jar first to get out the residual plant matter) and put the lid back on.
Now the hard part: leave this to sit for at least 6 months, preferably a year before drinking. The longer it sits, the more it mellows, and the better it tastes. You can, of course, drink it immediately, but the harsh edges of it will mellow over time, making it much more pleasant.
